Lakeside Science & Technology Park
The Lakeside Science & Technology Park (or Lakeside Park for short) is a science and technology park in Klagenfurt am Wörthersee in the immediate vicinity of the University of Klagenfurt . Together with this, the 36 hectare campus created as a result forms the Lakeside District , which borders on a Natura 2000 protected area.
history
In 2003, the construction of Lakeside Park began in several stages. The start-up funding came from the aerospace company EADS (now Airbus). Further buildings were built depending on the occupancy rate of the usable space. A total of ten buildings with a total usable area of 26,000 m² were erected in three construction phases by 2010.
The next big expansion of the Lakeside Science & Technology Park has been in progress since 2014. This runs under the title Lakeside Park 2.0 and will comprise a total of 6 construction stages with 32,000 m² total usable area. The first construction phase with approx. 8000 m² was completed at the end of 2015.
Area
Buildings B01 - B10
These 10 buildings combined under the new title Lakeside Science & Technology Park 1.0 were planned and constructed with a uniform look. The Carinthian architectural trio Egger (Klagenfurt), Fercher and Güldner (Villach) are responsible for the planning. Each building was erected on its own with green space and walkways in between. The parking spaces for the now almost 1,000 people working there were built in the south on the open space. The roofs of the buildings were designed as green roofs so that surface water can be stored.
Building B11
Lakeside Park 2.0's first building was completed in October 2015. This and the following construction stages were designed by the architects Baumschlager Eberle Wien ZT AG and ILF Consulting Engineers. In the final stage, all 6 construction stages will be visually connected to each other and therefore look like a large complex. In contrast to the buildings of Lakeside Science & Technology Park 1.0 , the parking spaces for the employees are built on the ground floor of the building. This is intended to avoid further sealing of the floor areas and additional noise pollution for the immediate neighbors.
Open spaces
Already during the construction of the first construction stages, consideration was given to the difficult groundwater situation in this part of the city of Klagenfurt and several interconnected retention basins were built to absorb surface water that quickly accumulates. Additional pools will be built depending on the progress of construction.
This water landscape is completed by a sports field, street ball court and a running track as well as children's playgrounds for the local childcare facilities. This should result in a work, sports and regeneration room at the same time.
operator
Lakeside Science & Technology Park GmbH acts as the supporting company, the shareholders are the state capital Klagenfurt with 33.33% and BABEG Kärntner Betriebsansiedlungs- und Beteiligungs GmbH with 66.67% (which in turn is 47.5% owned by the state of Carinthia, 50 % Republic of Austria and 2.5% Carinthian economic development fund).
