Lakhisarai is a city in the state of Bihar in eastern India . It is the capital of the Lakhisarai District . Lakhisarai has the status of a City Council ( Nagar parishad ). The city is divided into 33 wards (constituencies). It is approximately 148 km from Bihar's capital, Patna .
Demographics
The city's population is 99,979 according to the 2011 census. Lakhisarai has a gender ratio of 898 women per 1000 men and thus a male surplus that is usual for India. The literacy rate was 70.32% in 2011. Almost 94.6% of the population are Hindus , approx. 5.1% are Muslim and approx. 0.6% belong to other religions. 17.6% of the population are children under 6 years of age. 10.7% of the population are part of the Scheduled Castes .
