Lalande-de-Pomerol (wine region)
The Lalande-de-Pomerol wine-growing region is located immediately north of the Pomerol appellation (only separated by the Barbanne stream ) and west of Saint-Émilion in the Bordeaux wine-growing region and is named after the municipality of Lalande-de-Pomerol . The old wine-growing area with around 1,130 hectares of vineyards was expanded by the Johanniter . For a long time the region was a popular transit station for pilgrims on the Way of St. James to Santiago de Compostela .
The vineyards are divided between the two municipalities of Lalande-de-Pomerol with low-lying gravel and sand terraces and Néac (40%) on a gravel plateau about 20 m higher . Since December 8, 1936, the area has had the status of an Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC for short). Only the production of red wine is permitted .
The red wine is mainly made from Merlot and Cabernet Franc , as well as parts of Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec (also called Pressac here ). The harvest restriction is 42 hectoliters / hectare. The planting density in the vineyards must exceed 5,500 vines / hectare.
