Laleh Park

The Lāleh Park ( Pārk-e Lāleh , formerly Pārk-e Farah after Schahbanu Farah Pahlavi ) is a recreational area in the center of Tehran .

The park was laid out under the supervision of Farah Pahlavi on the site of the former horse racing track (Jalaliyeh) and designed by a French garden designer. The plant was opened in 1966.

28 of a total of 35 ha of the area are pure green space. In the southeast of the park there is a Japanese garden (2.5 ha) with a river landscape, a chess game, children's playgrounds, sports facilities and the sculptures of the scholars Omar Chayyām and Aburihan Biruni .

As part of the program to build children's and youth libraries at Kanun-e Parvaresh , the first children's library in Iran, built according to plans by Farah Pahlavi, was also opened here. A puppet theater was also set up.

There are several cultural institutions in the immediate vicinity of the park, including the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art , the Iranian Carpet Museum , the University of Tehran and the Ministry of Agriculture. On its northern edge is the Laleh Hotel, the former Hotel Intercontinental. In the vicinity of the park there are also cafes, fast food outlets, shopping centers and designer boutiques, especially on Valiasr Street .
