Mellat Park ( Persian پارک ملت Pārk-e Mellat , for example Volkspark ) is the name of large, mostly central parks in numerous Iranian cities. The most famous is in Tehran , other parks with this name are located in Mashhad , Ahwas and Bushehr .

Mellat Park in Tehran

Mellat Park in northern Tehran is the city's largest recreational area. The park was designed in several construction phases on behalf of Shahbanu Farah Pahlavi . The opening as Pārk-e Shāhanschāhī after the first construction phase took place in 1967. The second phase, led by the British horticultural architect Posen, was completed in 1973. When planting, the focus was on trees and plants from all over Iran. There are 120 trees with different types of fruit in the park alone.

The park is located at the foot of the Elburs Mountains , south of the Tehran exhibition center and the Enghelab golf course . It is bordered by Chamran and Seoul Roads to the west, and Valiasr Road to the east . It is irrigated by meltwater from the 4000 m high Tochal .

The park offers wide walking paths, boat rentals, roller skating rinks , an aviary , snack bars and cafes. A lake and water features are a special attraction.

In the park, the steam locomotive of the country's first railway line, the Tehran-Abd-al-Azim Railway , is on display. It was built by the Belgian "Atelier de Tubize" and sold to Iran in 1887.

In 2000 the benches and the color scheme of the paths were changed. A bridge was built across the lake.
