Gerhard Dabel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gerhard Dabel , also Gerd Dabel , (born December 16, 1916 in Stettin , † May 7, 1984 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German writer .

Life

During the time of National Socialism he was the head of the Hitler Youth and responsible employee - in the last weeks of the war he was even head of the Kinderlandverschickung department of the Reich Youth Leadership. After the end of the war, many of his writings were placed on the list of literature to be sorted out in the Soviet zone of occupation .

In 1981 Dabel published a collective work on the extended Kinderlandverschickung , which contains numerous documents and memories from former camp participants. For a long time, this book shaped the image of Kinderlandverschickung as a carefree youth. Publications by specialist historians criticize Dabel's interpretation of the facts and documents, which make him and other representatives of the KLV department appear in a favorable light. Jost Hermand accuses the book of a “fasciating euphemism, if not glorification of the KLV experience”.

Gerhard Dabel died on May 7, 1984 in Freiburg im Breisgau and was buried in the main cemetery there.
