Lambert is a 30 km large lunar crater in the southern half of the Mare Imbrium . Due to its isolated position in the large, almost crater-free lowland (northwest quadrant of the moon), it is easy to spot even in small telescopes.

Lambert crater is east of Timocharis crater, which is almost the same size . To the south and south-west are the somewhat smaller craters Pytheas and Euler .

Lambert has a sharp-edged outer wall , detached inner walls and a rough interior that has an albedo comparable to its surroundings . Instead of a central low point, there is a small secondary crater in the middle of the crater floor, which is a rare exception.

Directly south of Lambert is the lava- covered edge of a large crater, the heavily eroded wall of which barely protrudes over the Mare rock. This so-called ghost crater is almost twice as big as Lambert, but you can only see it in the vicinity of the terminator. H. when the sun is very low and casts long shadows. This ghost crater is called 'Lambert R'.
