Lambert Chaumont (* 1645 in the Principality of Liège ; † April 23, 1712 in Huy ) was a composer , organist and Carmelite active in the Principality of Liège .

Life

Lambert Chaumont entered the Liège Carmelite monastery on May 8, 1659, where he began his training as a lay brother, which he continued as a novice in Reims , where he called himself Brother Lambert de St Théodore . From 1674 he was rector of the parish of St. Martin in Huy and from 1688 in the neighboring parish of St. Germain.

Chaumont was an autodidact in the field of music. Nevertheless, he has become a good organist with a talent for composing his instrument.

Chaumont left an organ book (Pièces d'orgue sur les 8 tons Op.2, Liège, 1695) with a total of 111 pieces. His work is closely related to the French organ school of his time (Nivers, Lebègue, Boyvin, Grigny or Raison), although his Liège contemporaries had already turned to the Italian style. In this organ book he is one of the first after Andreas Werckmeister to deal with the well-tempered tuning . His collection of works Op. 1 is missing. Chaumont also wrote a book on the plague .
