Lamprecht of Regensburg

Lamprecht von Regensburg , also Lambert de Ratisbone , (* around 1215, † after 1250) was a Franciscan who was born in the 13th century.

He wrote a translation ( Sante Francisken Leben , probably completed in 1239) in pair rhymes of St. Francis of Assisi based on the Latin model Vita prima by the Italian Minorite Thomas von Celano . Thomas had this biography on the occasion of the canonization of Francis in 1228 on behalf of Pope Gregory IX.prepared. Theologically, Lamprecht assumes that final salvation is only possible through a conscious life in poverty and hard work and life. However, Lamprecht's work can only be regarded as a real translation to a limited extent. He made small changes and arranged the sequence chronologically (in the template the canonization of Francis is before his miracles).

Lamprecht's second work Diu tohter von Syon ("Daughter Syon") was probably written between 1247 and 1252. The Daughter Syon is an allegorical poem: It is inherent in the soul to strive to seek union with Christ (God). This idea is entirely in keeping with the tradition of the Bridal mysticism of Bernhard von Clairvaux . There are three manuscripts and two fragments from the 13th and 14th centuries.

Lamprecht was a contemporary of the most important and well-known German-speaking Franciscan preacher Berthold von Regensburg at the time .
