Lance Mackey
Lance Mackey (* 1970 in Wasilla , Alaska ) is an American dog sled athlete .
Career
He is multiple winner of the two most important and toughest races in this sport - the Iditarod and the Yukon Quest - and the only musher who could win both 1000-mile races in the same year (2007); he was able to repeat this performance in 2008.
He is also the only musher who could win both races 4 times in a row, the Yukon Quest from 2005 to 2008, the Iditarod from 2007 to 2010.
In 2010 he was the second participant after Martin Buser in 2002 who finished the Iditarod in less than 9 days, namely in 8 days 23 hours 59 minutes and 9 seconds.
Lance Mackey is the son of Dick Mackey , one of the founders of the Iditarod race, and the half-brother of Rick Mackey . All three won their first Iditarod with their sixth participation and with the starting number 13 : Dick 1978, Rick 1983 and Lance 2007.
Private
Mackey was married with four children. He lives in Fairbanks, Alaska , where he runs a dog sled kennel.
