Lancelot Stafford
Lancelot Henry Grahame Stafford (born January 11, 1887 in Shepherd's Bush , Greater London , † June 15, 1940 in Beckenham , Greater London) was a British athlete.
life and career
Stafford, who had never appeared in sport before, competed in the British eliminations for the 1908 Olympic Games in London . Completely surprisingly, he was able to win both the standing long jump and the standing high jump, each with a new national record. Logically, he then also belonged to the British Olympic squad in these disciplines.
No measured distance from Stafford has been transmitted from the Olympic standing long jump competition, in the high jump from standing he came in 17th place with a jump of 1.32 meters.
During the First World War he belonged to the regiment of the Artists Rifles and was mentioned in the official war report . He worked for Phoenix Insurance for over 30 years and when he retired in 1935 he was their Surrey Area Manager .
Stafford started for the London AC club , his personal bests were 1.42 meters in the standing high jump and 3.07 meters in the standing long jump, both set up in 1908.
