David-Emil Wickström

David-Emil Wickström (born October 18, 1978 in Bergen (Norway) ) is a musicologist in Germany. He has been a professor at the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg since 2014 .

Life

David-Emil Wickström, son of the Swedish finance scientist Bengt-Arne Wickström and his American wife, grew up in Norway, Austria and Germany. After graduating from the Schiller High School in Berlin in 1999 , he studied musicology and Scandinavian studies at the Humboldt University of Berlin and the University of Bergen . In 2003 he obtained the academic degree of candidatus philologiae in ethnomusicology in Bergen with a thesis on traditional Norwegian vocal music. After research in Germany, Russia and Denmark, he received his doctorate from the University of Copenhagen in 2009 with a thesis on popular music in the post-Soviet space. Since 2010 he has been working at the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg , since 2014 as a professor.

Wickström speaks English , Swedish , Norwegian as mother tongues, fluent German and Esperanto , as well as Russian and French . From 1996 to 2007, Wickström was involved in the German Esperanto Youth and the World Esperanto Youth TEJO , most recently as their president.

He lives in Mannheim .
