Landbote (MP)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Landbote (Polish Poseł (powiatowy) ) was the German name for a member of the second chamber of the Sejm ( Reichstag ) of the Polish-Lithuanian aristocratic republic , as well as the individual diets (e.g. in Polish-Prussia).

In the second chamber of the Polish Sejm there were around 170-190 aristocratic deputies (country messengers ) from the individual voivodships who had been sent by the local parliaments. In the country messenger rooms, the laws in the field of civil , criminal and tax law were passed after they had been deliberated by the Senate on royal submission.

The Senate, as the first chamber, consisted of the senators: the ministers with the Grand Marshal, the voivodes, the castellans, and the archbishops and bishops of Poland-Lithuania. This two-chamber system existed since 1493.
