The Landesklinikum Wiener Neustadt is a hospital in Wiener Neustadt run by the Niederösterreichische Landeskliniken-Holding .

history

The state clinic is located in the northeast corner of the former fortress of the old town. Parts of the city wall have been preserved and partly integrated into buildings. In the former Schlögelturm of the city wall, a hospital museum was set up on the upper floor and a baby hatch on the lower ground floor . The Carmelite monastery within the city walls was closed in 1783, the former monastery garden was built by the hospital. The secular Carmelite Church Wiener Neustadt was structurally connected to the hospital with its own entrance in Schlögelgasse.

The hospital consists of several inconsistent buildings from the different expansion phases on a spacious area. The first main building was built between 1885 and 1889 according to the plans of the architect Georg Wilhelm Mayer. From 1889 to 1978 the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity were entrusted with the care of the sick and in 1904 they built the Marienheim nursing home in the immediate vicinity of the hospital . From 1899 to 1904, four single-storey pavilions were built as the Empress Elisabeth Infection Hospital according to the plans of the architect Franz von Gruber . From 1905 to 1906 a so-called sanatorium was added as a two-storey building by the town council under the mayor Franz Kammann . Then the hospital garden was extended to Ungargasse and the canal port building of the Wiener Neustädter Canal was demolished. From 1936 to 1937 the so-called mother's home was built on the south side .

In 1967 the remaining east wing of the Carmelite monastery was adapted as an administration building for the hospital and in 2017/2019 it was converted into the Corvinus Campus of the Wiener Neustadt University of Applied Sciences with a conversion with the Carmelite Church . From 1968 to 1971 a new building for the trauma surgery department was built. From 1977 to 1982 a 14-story bed and treatment wing was built.

In 2008, the previously municipal hospital was taken over by the Niederösterreichische Landeskliniken-Holding.

In 2012, the construction of a logistics and supply center for all regional hospitals in the Thermenregion in Wiener Neustadt, Neunkirchen, Hochegg, Baden-Mödling and Hainburg on the grounds of the Civitas Nova in Wiener Neustadt began. A new building for the State Clinic for Wiener Neustadt is also planned there later. In April 2019, the state parliament of Lower Austria decided to build a new regional hospital in Wiener Neustadt. The costs should amount to 535 million euros.
