State association of Jewish communities in Saxony-Anhalt

The regional association of Jewish communities in Saxony-Anhalt Kdö.R. is an association of Jewish communities in Saxony-Anhalt based in Magdeburg . He is a member of the Central Council of Jews in Germany and includes the Jewish communities in Dessau (401), Magdeburg (576) and Halle (658). With 1635 community members (as of 2009) it is one of the smaller regional associations within the Central Council.

The relationship between Saxony-Anhalt and the Jewish communities there was regulated for the first time on March 23, 1994 in a State Church Treaty , which was signed by the State of Saxony-Anhalt and the State Association of Jewish Communities in Saxony-Anhalt. On March 20, 2006, a new state treaty was signed, this time not only including the regional association, but also the independent synagogue community of Halle eV .

This was preceded by a lawsuit by the Halle synagogue community, registered in the register of associations on February 19, 1997, against the state treaty of 1994. On February 28, 2002, the Federal Administrative Court issued a fundamental judgment in which it was decided that all communities are entitled to a state contract with the Jewish community who have found recognition within a relevant Jewish movement. This applied from August 17, 1999 to March 4, 2011 for the synagogue community in Halle, because at that time, as a member of the Union of Progressive Jews in Germany (UPJ), it also belonged to the World Union for Progressive Judaism (WUPJ). The Higher Administrative Court of Magdeburg has made with its decision of 11 November 2004 ruling by the Federal Administrative Court and noted that the Jewish community in Halle is entitled to participate in the promotion funds from the State Treaty.

The renewed state treaty of 2006 was approved by a law of the state parliament of August 4, 2006. Accordingly, the regional association continues to be the contact person for Jewish matters in relation to the state.

On March 4, 2011, the synagogue community in Halle anticipated an exclusion procedure initiated by the Union of Progressive Jews in Germany on January 17, 2011 and carried out on April 10, 2011. The reason for this procedure was the suspicion of improper maintenance and checking of the membership lists.
