Rybnik district

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The district Rybnik was during the German occupation of Poland from 1939 to 1945, a district in the administrative district of Katowice in East Upper Silesia .

Administrative history

As part of the attack on Poland , the Polish powiat Rybnicki (until 1922 Rybnik district ) was occupied by the Wehrmacht in September 1939 and on November 26, 1939, as Rybnik district, it was part of the newly formed administrative district of Katowice in the province of Silesia . On January 18, 1941, the province of Silesia was dissolved and the new province of Upper Silesia was formed from the administrative districts of Katowice and Opole . In January 1945 the district became Polish again after it was captured by the Red Army .

Local constitution

During the German occupation, the cities of Loslau , Rybnik and Sohrau and some other municipalities were first given the German municipal code of January 30, 1935 valid in the Altreich on February 27, 1940 . On September 1, 1940, the German municipal code was also introduced in all other municipalities. Manor districts no longer existed. The district law applicable in the incorporated eastern areas was valid for the entire district area .

Place names

By unpublished decree of December 29, 1939, the German place names valid until 1918 were provisionally valid with regard to the previously Polish place names. This global renaming was possible because the entire German map series for the areas ceded to Poland in 1922 (also) continued to use the earlier German place names. There was no final assignment of purely German place names until the end of the war. But this was already prepared in detail. These were phonetic adjustments, translations, new creations or improvements to the names that have been valid since 1939, for example:
