The Leegmoor landscape protection area is a landscape protection area in the Wittmund district of the state of Lower Saxony . It bears the number LSG WTM 00019. As the lower nature conservation authority, the district of Wittmund is responsible for the area.

Description of the area

The landscape protection area, designated in 1977, covers an area of 2.8 square kilometers, which extends south of Holtgast , a municipality in the Esens municipality in East Frisia .

Protection purpose

The general protection purpose is the "preservation of the character of the grassland used lowlands with flowing waters". In addition, the "wetland character of the lowlands of the Benser Tief s, Stuhlleide, Falster Tief, Burgschlootes, Reihertief and Bargsteder Tief should be secured in the long term". In order to achieve this goal, the areas should only be cultivated taking into account the requirements of the meadow birds and the species-rich network of ditches should be maintained and developed. The development of a buffer area to the Ochsenweide nature reserve and the extension of the landscape protection area in the northeast to the edge of the settlement of Holtgast are planned. In the long term, the spruce forest is to be changed through succession to a forest with indigenous trees (swamp bushes or swamp forest) appropriate to the location. Afforestation should be excluded
