reception

In the newspaper Das Parlament , Sabine Pamperrien was of the opinion that the title Die Alpha-Journalisten 2007 had received so much media attention that the term had established itself in German usage. Leif Kramp and Stephan Weichert said in the study Journalism in the Berlin Republic by Netzwerk Recherche that the term “alpha journalism” had spread in the media thanks to the portrait volume Die Alpha-Journalisten .

Stephan Russ-Mohl and Alexandra Sowka say in the article “Die Alphatiere des Journalismus” in the NZZ about the book that the editors first of all identify the “Top 30” journalists “who they consider to be the spokesmen among Germany's media makers” and who are a “small sensation that Weichert and Zabel were able to win 30 other prominent journalists as authors for their project.” From the NZZ's point of view, the book contains “no major revelations, but rather everyday observations that bring us closer to the big media animals”.

Günter Herkel says about the first book at M - Menschenmachen Medien that it tries to present the “current biographical sketch of German elite journalism” with a “lurid and stupid title”. The authors, some of whom “lurk themselves on the threshold to the status of journalistic alpha male”, have “collected 30 biographies of actual or supposed opinion leaders of the German media scene”. The compilation is criticized, for example Sabine Christiansen and Hermann L. Gremliza were missing . The portrayals of the journalists would turn out to be "sometimes sympathetic, sometimes soberly distant, sometimes critically ironic".

The Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung notes that the book contains the "numerous largely unknown anecdotes that combine with interesting facts and silent observations to form a collection of over 30" alpha journalists "from German media", whereby "the selection sometimes seems a little arbitrary" .

Die Welt am Sonntag wrote that the book contained 30 portraits of influential journalists and that Hajo Schumacher wrote "an extremely appropriate typology of the German journalist scene".
