Ulrich Reitz

Ulrich Reitz (born October 22, 1960 in Mönchengladbach ) is a German journalist . Between October 2014 and February 2016 he was editor-in-chief of Focus magazine .

Professional background

Reitz, who studied political science and German with a master's degree at the University of Bonn , began his journalistic work for the local General-Anzeiger while studying . Immediately after graduation, he completed an internship at the daily newspaper Die Welt , also in Bonn, in 1985 . There he then worked as an editor in the news department before moving to the parliamentary editorial office in 1987. In 1989 he took over the domestic affairs department.

In 1992 he switched to Focus magazine as the first head of the editorial office in Bonn .

In October 1997 he took over the chief editor of the Rheinische Post in Düsseldorf .

From July 2005 to June 2014 he was editor-in-chief of the Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung (WAZ) in Essen , from December 2009 to December 2010 he was also editor-in-chief of the online portal DerWesten and head of the central content desk of the WAZ-NRW titles in Essen. As a member of the management of the WAZ media group , he also represented the affairs of all newspaper editorial offices in the house.

On October 1, 2014, he succeeded Jörg Quoos as editor-in-chief of Focus .

On January 21, 2016, the Hubert Burda Media group announced that Robert Schneider will take over his position as editor-in-chief of Focus from March 1, 2016 . Until January 2017 he was editor-at-large for the topics of politics and debate at Focus.

In 1996 Reitz published a biography about Wolfgang Schäuble .

On September 1, 2008 Reitz was awarded the Badge of Honor of the West German Chamber of Crafts .

Private

Ulrich Reitz lives in Düsseldorf today. He is married and has five children.
