The nature   reserve Eggegebirge and Teutoburg Forest, with an area of ​​11,798.26  hectares, is located in the Paderborn district . The landscape protection area (LSG) was designated on November 27, 1972 by the district president in the Detmold district . The landscape protection area was designated in 1972 with a time limit until September 30, 1992. According to the law for the protection of nature in North Rhine-Westphalia (Landesnaturschutzgesetz - LNatSchG NRW) of July 21, 2000 § 79 transition of existing ordinances, the LSG continues to exist until a landscape plan or another regulatory authority ordinance comes into force .

When designated, the LSG comprised large areas of forest and open land in the Teutoburg Forest / Egge Mountains Nature Park . In the later adopted landscape plans in the area of ​​the nature park, large areas of the LSG were rededicated to other protected areas. In 2020, the LSG still comprised six sub-areas. There is no indication of the size of the area in 2020. A small area of ​​grassland is located east of Schlangen (municipality) . Four sub-areas, two of which are large areas, are around Altenbeken , Buke (Altenbeken) and Schwaney , with mainly open land with grassland and fields to the west and mainly forest to the east. The sixth sub-area is located south of Dalheim (Lichtenau) . It consists mainly of arable land. There is also a farm, an eastern meadow and a spruce forest in it. It borders on the L 817 to the west and the A 44 to the south.

The ordinance of the LSG prohibits the afforestation of agriculturally usable areas with the exception of the wasteland and the complete or partial removal or damage of hedges, field or riparian trees in the open landscape. At the same time, however, it allows the afforestation of agriculturally usable areas or the complete or partial removal of hedges, field or riparian trees, if this is necessary for the management of the property.
