The Upper Orpetal conservation area with a size of 24.68  hectares is located east and north of Canstein in the urban area of Marsberg in the Hochsauerlandkreis . It was with the 2008 landscape plan Marsberg as a conservation area designated (LSG). This separates the Kittenberg nature reserve to the east from the Schuberstein nature reserve to the west . Kreisstraße 66 runs along the western edge of the LSG. The LSG consists of two areas. A pond system at the Udorfer Mühle separates the areas.

The source of the Orpe is located in the LSG . In the LSG, the Orpe runs to the northern edge of the LSG by the ponds at the Udorfer Mühle. Parts of the grassland areas in the LSG fell fallow.
