The landscape protection area Ostfriesische Seemarsch between the north and Esens is a landscape protection area in parts of the districts of Aurich and Wittmund of the state of Lower Saxony . It bears the number LSG AUR 00029 in the Aurich area and the number LSG WTM 00025 in the Wittmund area. As the lower nature conservation authority, the district of Aurich and the district of Wittmund are responsible for the area that is used to protect the EU bird sanctuary V63 “ East Frisian maritime march between the north and Esens ”.
Description of the area
The landscape protection area designated in 2010 in Wittmunder and 2011 in Aurich area covers an area of 88.59 square kilometers, which extends from Norddeich in the west to Neuharlingersiel in the east. Of this, 63.1 square kilometers are in the Aurich district and 25.49 square kilometers in the Wittmund district. In the north it borders directly on the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park . Much of the sparsely populated area is used for agriculture wherein the dike close range with Jung march floors to agriculture is reserved, while the older and more distant from the dike line areas as grassland be used. Due to its proximity to the North Sea , the area is "of great importance for experiencing the landscape and recreation related to the landscape."
Flora and fauna
Most of it consists of largely open and wood-free marshland. It is characterized by clumps (narrow ditches used for drainage), a network of reed ditches on the surfaces and wide receiving waters with reed beds . There are also major beds, natural pond and lakes from leased for dyke construction Klei emerged extraction points. Mainly winter grain and winter rape are grown on the arable land. In Lower Saxony, the landscape protection area is one of the most important breeding grounds for the Montagu's Harrier , Reed Warbler and Bluethroat . In addition, due to its proximity to the Wadden Sea , it is of central importance as a guest and resting bird habitat for barnacle goose , golden plover , curlew and black-headed gull and common gull . Other birds found in the area include the lapwing , meadow pipit and skylark as breeding bird species, as well as lapwing , snipe and teal as guest species.
Protection purpose
The general protection purpose is the “preservation, care and near-natural development of the area as a habitat for other animal and plant species in need of protection and their communities as well as a landscape of rarity, special character, diversity and special beauty”.
