The landscape protection area Ruhrtal and Wennetal near Wennemen with 180.1 hectares lies in the urban area of Meschede and in the Hochsauerlandkreis . The area was designated as a landscape protection area (LSG) in 1994 with the Meschede landscape plan by the district council of the Hochsauerlandkreis . The LSG is one of 102 landscape protection areas in the city of Meschede. In the city there is a landscape protection area of type A, 51 landscape protection areas of type B and 50 landscape protection areas of type C. The landscape protection area Ruhrtal and Wennetal near Wennemen has been designated as a landscape planning area of type C, Wiesentäler .
The LSG is to the west and south of Wennemen . The LSG partly extends to the edge of the settlement and consists of two sub-areas. The federal highway 46 divides the LSG. In the LSG are the Ruhr and Wenne with grassland and fields in the floodplain . In the Wennetal, the LSG goes to the city limits. The nature reserve Ruhrtal near Laer borders on LSG to the east and the nature reserve Kehling / Stuckerlen on the south.
Protection regulations
As in the other type C landscape protection areas in the Meschede landscape planning area, this LSG prohibits the conversion of grassland and fallow grassland into arable land or other forms of use. First afforestation and the creation of Christmas tree crops is prohibited. A maximum of two years of arable use within twelve years is permitted, provided that this prepares the renewal of the sward. This is considered an extended nursing shift . In the case of extended care changes , a minimum distance of five meters from the central water bed must be maintained.
Protection purpose
The designation was made to supplement the nature reserve designation of Meschede to create a network of open-land biotopes so that animals and plants retain the opportunity to migrate and spread, and to preserve the occurrence of protected bird species and the protection of species-rich plant communities.
