Country town Gatow
The country town of Gatow is a - as part of the government move in accordance with the Berlin / Bonn Act - the federal government launched the project in the south of Berlin Spandau . This 36 hectare residential area was established on the western part of the former Gatow airfield . It offers space for around 1200 apartments in single-family, semi-detached and terraced houses. Up to the last purchase agreement in May 2013, around 640 houses had been built by investors and private builders. Historically this area was called Ritterfeld .
The land was marketed by the Federal Agency for Real Estate Tasks between 1999 and 2013. Mainly families with children live here. Infrastructural , the federal government has been here since 2000, the Mary Poppins primary school, the Hans-Carossa-Gymnasium Berlin , one currently provided by the Workers' Welfare operated daycare with school club built and a sports court. A supplementary childcare facility (after-school care center) has moved into the primary school since summer 2012. All roads including the development lines with pre-stretching to each property have already been completed. A small local supply center with a supermarket was opened at the end of March 2007.
The entire building area belonged to the community of Groß Glienicke until 1945 . The fact that the former Gatow airfield with its runways extended to Ritterfelddamm had prompted the federal government in the 1990s to use the geographically and cadastral incorrect name Landstadt Gatow , since Gatow is closer to the western inner city of Berlin than Kladow . Despite the remote location of the settlement, the residents have mostly expressed themselves positively about the quality of life in their location: the nearby forest and water landscape and the low noise pollution indicate a relatively high recreational value.
When defining the districts of Spandau in 2003, the entire area of Groß Glienicke belonging to Spandau was seen as part of the district of Kladow, as a common statistical area of Kladow was already formed at that time . There is also an organic unit with the Ritterfelddamm as an axis.
