The Landsverk L-60 was a light Swedish tank from the 1930s to 1940s.
history
The light tank was a development based on the Landsverk L-10 (Stridsvagn m / 31) developed by the German engineer Joseph Vollmer in the early 1930s . Vollmer had previously designed the first German tank ( A7V ) and at that time was co-owner of the Deutsche Automobil-Construktionsgesellschaft (DAC). Until 1936, vehicles and engines were constructed by this company and sold as a complete factory drawing to motor vehicle and engine factories against payment of a license. The AB Landsverk in Landskrona belonged to the Gutehoffnungshütte based in Oberhausen . The chief designer at this time was the German engineer Otto Merker . The L-60 represented the first in-house construction as a tank by AB Landsverk . The Landsverk L-60 had a welded hull and inclined front armor plates. Its armament consisted of a 20 × 120 mm Madsen cannon and a machine gun. Two of them were exported to Ireland , where the Irish Army used them until the late 1960s. One copy was delivered to Austria in 1937 . The L-60B was produced under license in Hungary and adapted by MÁVAG to the 38M Toldi . The armament of the L-60 was comparable to the German Panzerkampfwagen II .
Use in Sweden
The Swedish Armed Forces introduced the improved version L-60 SI as Stridsvagn m / 38 (Strv m / 38). Further improvements led via the Stridsvagn m / 39 (Strv m / 39) to the Stridsvagn m / 40 (Strv m / 40). The total of 216 tanks were used in the companies with light tanks in the tank brigades until 1957.

Use in the Dominican Republic
Twenty Stridsvagn m / 40L vehicles were sold to the Dominican Republic in 1960, where they were in service until the mid-1970s.
Varieties
The Landsverk L-62 Anti II , the Luftvärnskanonvagn fm / 43 (Lvkn fm / 43) and the Luftvärnskanonvagn 42 (Lvkv 42) were developed as variants of the L-60 with an extended hull. The L-62 was armed with a 40 mm single Bofors 40 ItK / 38 in the open top turret, six of which were delivered to Finland in 1942 . In Hungary the L-62 was produced under license and adapted to the 40M Nimrod . The Lvkn fm / 43 was armed with a 40 mm twin flak Bofors m / 36-43 in the rotating turret, which was also open at the top, and was introduced into the Swedish armed forces from 1947 with a number of 17 vehicles. The Lvkv 42 from 1954 was a test vehicle, armed with a 40 mm single flak.
