The LANDWEHR BRÄU Wilhelm Wörner GmbH & Co.KG is a brewery in western Central Franconia . It is based in Reichelshofen , a district of the Steinsfeld community in the Ansbach district . The brewery inn of the same name also belongs to the brewery.
history
The brewery's current premises have had many owners over the course of history, including Heinrich Toppler (Mayor of Rothenburg ob der Tauber ) in the late Middle Ages . He became the namesake of one of the brewery's beers. In 1841 a new brewery was built in Reichelshofen; Beer sales rose so strongly that new ice and beer storage cellars were built in 1879. There were further extensions as early as the 1890s, including a larger brewhouse. In 1913 Johann Alt bought the entire property in Reichelshofen. The master brewer Wilhelm Wörner married Alt's daughter Margarete and later took over the brewery. Under him, the Alt brewery became the Landwehr-Bräu, which was already producing over 5,500 hectoliters of beer before the Second World War . After the war the brewery and inn were continuously expanded.
His son Wilhelm Wörner continued this expansion, especially in the 1990s, before managing directors Gerhard Ilgenfritz and Roland Hausmann took over responsibility after his death. Half a million euros were invested in the company in 2013 alone.
The name Landwehr-Bräu is derived from the Rothenburger Landwehr , a 62-kilometer border security system that secured 163 villages around Rothenburg ob der Tauber.
