The Lange Max Museum ("LMM") is a Belgian military museum dedicated to the First World War in Koekelare in Flanders. It is named after the German 38 cm SK L / 45 gun (" Langer Max "), of which the remains of a position - the former Pommern battery - have been preserved near the museum site. The museum focuses on the German occupation of Koekelare and Belgium during the First World War and focuses on the German side of the war. This sets it apart from most Belgian World War I museums, which are dedicated to an Allied perspective and one-sidedly thematize the occupation - whereas everyday life between occupiers and occupied is mostly neglected.
museum
The opening took place in October 2014 by the Prime Minister of Flanders , Geert Bourgeois . The Lange Max Museum is located on the site of a farm, on which other protected monuments can be seen: the former bakery and canteen, as well as the actual artillery platform, with which Dunkirk and Ypres were also shot at. The museum offers (audio) tours in Dutch, German, French and English.
Surroundings
The Käthe Kollwitz Museum is about 3 km away. About 6 km from the museum is the German military cemetery near Vladslo , where over 25,000 German soldiers who died in the First World War found their final resting place.
