Langenau (Schopfheim)

Langenau lies at the beginning of the small meadow valley between the “Scheinberg” and “Entegast” ridges. At 360 m above sea level Langenau is the lowest-lying district of Schopfheim .

history

Langenau was first mentioned in a document in 1278 in a deed of donation from the von Rotenberg couple to the St. Blasien monastery. In 1583 the place name was first written "Langenaw". Since about 1600 Langenau was a bailiwick that belonged to the Schopfheimer Viertel, which in turn belonged to the Rötteln-Sausenberg rule. Until 1830 Enkenstein also belonged to this bailiwick. The Langenau town hall and school building was built in 1842 and still characterizes the townscape today. A larger hall was added to it in 1928 due to the increased population. At the same time, a public bath was set up under the new classroom.

As early as 1911 the village was connected to the electricity supply and electric street lights had been installed. From 1912 onwards, almost all houses in the town had running water. Previously there had only been wooden pipes for the public fountains. The First World War cost 15 Langenauers their lives; A total of 39 citizens died in World War II and 18 were missing. At the Langenau cemetery, two grave plaques created by the sculptor Otto Erich Döbele commemorate the dead and missing from both world wars.

In 1946 Langenau had 458 inhabitants, in 1950 already 545. On July 1, 1972, the village gave up its independence and was incorporated into the town of Schopfheim. The mayor Ernst Seufert became mayor. In 1974 the gymnasium and festival hall was completed, and many volunteers were involved in its construction. In the same year, the Protestant Dietrich Bonhoeffer community inaugurated the Langenau community center. In 1992 the tennis facility in Fritz-Reimold-Strasse was opened. In 1995 the first edition of "Langenauer Dorfzittig" appeared.
