Kürnberg is a district of Schopfheim in the southern Black Forest . It is located in the Lörrach district in the triangle north-west of the core town of Schopfheim. The streets in by far the smallest suburb have no names; all houses are numbered uniformly.

history

The first documentary mention of Kürnberg can be found in 1344 as "Kurnberg" in the church records of the former St. Blasien monastery. As an episcopal Basle fiefdom of the Lords of Schönau, it was sold to the Margraves of Hachberg-Sausenberg in 1400 with numerous other locations as an accessory to Neuenstein Castle (Todtmoos municipality).

Around 1500 the village belonged together with Schlechtbach, Burgmatt and the saddle farms to the Raitbach bailiwick.

In 1804, apart from a few houses, it was destroyed by a fire and later rebuilt. The schoolhouse was built in 1840, and from 1902 on, Kürnberg had its own water pipe, which was financed by the citizens themselves.

The village in the Sternen received a post office with a public telephone in 1904, and the post bus served the place from 1925.

On October 1, 1934, the district of Kürnberg was incorporated into the Fahrnau community.

coat of arms

In 1930 the municipality of Kürnberg applied for its own coat of arms and seal and then accepted a proposal from the General State Archives in 1931.

On the coat of arms three mountains are depicted on a gold background with a mill wheel above. This gives the name of the village. Mühle is called Kürn in Middle High German and, in connection with the mountain, gives the place name Kürnberg.
