geography

The scattered settlement Raitbach is located on the southern slope of the Hohen Möhr , about 993 m (above sea level) , northeast of the core area of Schopfheim, and includes the village center as well as the residential areas Scheuermatt, Kehrengraben, Steinighof, Sattelhof, Schweigmatt and the Raitbach settlement at the train station in the valley . Raitbach also included the Steineck desert. Raitbach borders Hausen im Wiesental in the west and Zell im Wiesental in the north .

history

The first written mention of Raitbach (as "Raitenbuch") is often given as a gift from the nobleman Walcho von Waldeck to the St. Blasien monastery in 1113. However, the name also appears, together with Fahrnau , in a donation dated between 1086 and 1108. It is controversial whether this can be considered a documentary mention.

In 1400 Anna von Klingenberg , the widow of the knight Rudolf von Schönau, sold the place to the margrave Rudolf III. from Hachberg-Sausenberg . Raitbach was first referred to as the Vogtei around 1500.

On January 1, 1973 Raitbach was incorporated into the city of Schopfheim.

coat of arms

Raitbach did not have its own coat of arms until it was incorporated into the city of Schopfheim, but a seal image with the letters R and B on the left and right of a fir tree. The Raitbach local coat of arms, which was only designed in 1976 by the General State Archives, is in a gold tone and shows a green fir tree on a green shield base, which is framed by the black letters R and B on the left and right.
