The Langobardwerkstatt Zethlingen is an open-air museum on the Mühlenberg von Zethlingen , a district of Kalbe (Milde) and a branch of the Johann Friedrich Danneil Museum in Salzwedel .

About 150 years ago, fire graves were discovered during gravel mining on Mühlenberg near Salzwedel . The Zethlinger Mühlenberg cremation cemetery from the late Roman Empire has been largely excavated and investigated since then and is attributed to the early Lombards in the Middle Elbe-Saale region. There is evidence that early Lombards , an Elbe Germanic tribe, lived in this region before they emigrated - presumably around the year 166 to the Roman Empire.

open air museum

In the meantime, an open-air museum has been built at the site on the Mühlenberg and serves as a museum educational center and presentation of the Zethlingen site. Several times a year workshop weekends take place here, on which the prehistoric and protohistoric world of the Lombards in the Middle Elbe-Saale region is presented. Group tours through the workshop are organized regularly.

The Langobard workshop in Zethlingen has been part of the Danneil Museum since 1990.
