The Church of Our Lady of Kochawina in Gliwice, Upper Silesia, is a Roman Catholic parish church and the sanctuary of Our Lady of Kochawina. The modern style church dates from the end of the 20th century and is dedicated to the miraculous image of Our Lady of Kochawina. The Church of Our Lady of Kochawina belongs to the parish of Our Lady of Kochawina in Gliwice in the Deanery Gliwice-Sośnica of the Diocese of Gliwice and is run by Jesuits . It is located at Ulica Kopernika 63a in the Kopernik district . There is a Jesuit monastery next to the church.

history

On August 26, 1994 the parish of Our Lady of Kochawina was founded by the Bishop of Gliwice Jan Wieczorek (* 1935), which was split off from the parish of St. Bartholomew . Efforts to build a church in Kopernik had been going on since 1982. In 1990 a makeshift church was set up. In 1992 the construction of the church began. On May 12, 1996, the founding act and the foundation stone were walled in. The foundation stone was blessed in 1983 by Pope John Paul II on Sankt Annaberg . The building was completed in 2001 and put to use on December 24, 2001. From 2008 the interior of the church was completed. On November 30, 2014 the church was consecrated by the Bishop of Gliwice Jan Copyc (* 1947).

architecture

The Church of Our Lady of Kochawina is a modern building based on baroque architecture with a facade made of red bricks and concrete painted white and with arched windows. It was built according to the plans of the architect Zenon Nasterski. In the entrance portal there are bas-reliefs of Maria, Stanislaus Kostka and Andreas Bobola, as well as the inscription O Mater Dei Electa Esto Nobis Via Recta , which comes from the miraculous image. The reliefs were created by Tadeusz Hanejko and Mirosław Zapora. The church does not have a steeple. In the church there is a lower church that has not yet been released for use.

The miraculous image of Our Lady of Kochawina is on the wall of the sanctuary in a frame in the form of a monstrance. In the church there are relics of St. John Paul II, St. Sister Maria Faustyna (1905–1938), St. Stanislaus Kostka (1550–1568) and St. Andrew Bobola (1591–1657).
