The Georgkirche in Gliwice, Upper Silesia, is a Roman Catholic parish church. The modern style church dates from the middle of the 20th century and is dedicated to St. George . The George Church belongs to the parish of St. George in Gliwice (Gliwice) in the Gliwice-Łabędy Dean's Office of the Gliwice Diocese . It is located on Radosna Street in the Łabędy (Laband) district. There is a municipal cemetery next to the church.

history

The Georgkirche was designed by the architects Theodor Ehl and Otto Lindner. Construction work began on November 3, 1937 and was carried out by the Kaller and Stachnik company under the management of Wieczorek. On September 4, 1938, the foundation stone was set in the walls. On June 24, 1939, the completed church was consecrated by Cardinal Adolf Bertram (1859–1945) and the new parish of St. Georg was founded. In 1959 the rectory was opened.

In 1962, 1998–2000 and 2008–2011 restoration work took place on the church. During the restoration from 2008 to 2011, the church tower was raised and the spire changed. Originally the tower had a gable roof .

architecture

The Georgkirche is a modern building with a completely plastered facade, the facade is only decorated with recesses in the plaster and with two crosses. It has a single steeple.

The interior of the church was designed by the architect Jacek Mistur, the interior was designed by Zdzisław Budziński. In 2016 the church received a wall mosaic with the archangels Michael and Rafael.
