history
The old church of Schönwald is said to have been built in 1260 by order of Duke Wladislaus I of Opole . The parish was mentioned in a document from 1447. In 1732 the church was enlarged after efforts by Strachwitz. From 1755 to 1757 the old wooden bell tower was replaced by a new brick tower. Until 1810, Schönwald and the church belonged to the Rauden monastery , which was responsible for pastoral care in the village.
The new church was created by expanding the previous building. It was designed by the architect Ludwig Schneider (1854–1943). Construction began in 1898 and was completed in 1907. Then the inner walls of the old church were removed. On May 31, 1911, the church was solemnly consecrated by Wroclaw Auxiliary Bishop Karl Augustin (1847-1919). The church was damaged during the war in 1945. From 1958 to 1964 it was rebuilt and from 1991 to 1999 the church was completely renovated.
On August 3, 1996, a memorial stone was erected in the parish cemetery for the Schönwald residents who were murdered by the Soviet Army in 1945 and for pastor Edgar Wolf (1882–1945).
