history

The Evangelical Lutheran parish of Gleiwitz was founded in 1831 and did not belong to the Evangelical regional church. In 1901 the congregation had 97 members in Gleiwitz and a total of 209 in all associated places. The believers gathered in a bedside room. The construction of the Evangelical Lutheran Church on what was then Kronprinzenstrasse began in 1900 and the church was consecrated on September 7, 1902. It was built according to the designs of the royal building inspector Schröder from Cosel under the direction of the master Proske. The organ was built by the organ builder E. Kurzer from Gleiwitz. The cast iron bells were cast in Bochum in 1901. For the 25th anniversary of the parish fair, Church Councilor Ziemer from Breslau and Pastor Birke gave a festive sermon. Around 500 participants took part in the afternoon party in the evangelical clubhouse.

In 1945 all church buildings were confiscated from the Protestant community by the Polish state. The church and outbuildings were taken over by the Roman Catholic Order of the Pallottines . After several efforts, in 1948 the congregation got its church back at ul. Jagiellońska. On October 16, 1949, there was a solemn service with Bishop Jan Szeruda. In 2002 the congregation celebrated the 100th anniversary of the church.
