Peter and Paul Church (Pyskowice)
The Peter and Paul Church in Pyskowice (Peiskretscham) in Upper Silesia is a Protestant branch church. The neo-Gothic church dates from the late 19th century and is dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul . The Peter-Paul-Kirche belongs to the Evangelical-Augsburg congregation in Gliwice (Gleiwitz). It is located at 8 Sienkiewicza Street on the southwestern edge of the old town.
history
At the beginning of the 19th century the Protestants of Peiskretscham were looked after by clergy from Gleiwitz. With the construction of a Protestant church in Tost in 1876, a joint Protestant congregation for Tost and Peiskretscham was founded, the Protestants from Peiskretscham belonged to the church in Tost from then on. The number of Protestants rose sharply in the second half of the 19th century.
In 1894 the foundation stone was laid for a Protestant church in Peiskretscham. On January 6, 1897, the church was consecrated by General Superintendent David Erdmann . In the same year, two bells were made in Bochum and an organ was made by the Schweidnitz company Schlag und Söhne. A Protestant cemetery was set up next to the church. In 1926 the city counted 514 Protestants.
