Maria-Hilf-Church (Gliwice)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Maria-Hilf-Kirche , Polish Maryi Panny Wspomożenie Wiernych , correctly Maria Hilfe der Christians is a modern church from 1929 in the district Sośnica (Sosnitza) in Gliwice (Gleiwitz).

history

Sosnitza initially belonged to the Catholic Andreasgemeinde in Alt-Zabrze , to which she was parish in 1848. In 1911 the Catholics in Sosnitza built their own provisional half-timbered church. This was named Herz-Jesu-Kirche. Soon it was decided to build a new church, the cost of which was calculated at 215,000 marks, but the construction was no longer realized because of the First World War. On June 3, 1928, the construction of a new church in the New Objectivity style began next to the temporary structure . In 1929 the church was consecrated and the emergency church was torn down, and the bell was moved from the old church to the new building. Since Sosnitza now belonged to Gleiwitz and a Sacred Heart Church already existed there, the church was given the new name Marienkirche, which became Maria-Hilf-Kirche after 1945.

In 1998 another church was built in the district: The Hyacinth Church .
