The Lanty's Tarn is a lake in the Lake District , Cumbria , England . It is located in the civil parish Martindale in the southwest of Lake Ullswater , west of Patterdale . The size of the lake, which is heavily overgrown with reeds , is unknown; its depth is given as 1 m. The lake has no recognizable inflow and also no outflow.

The lake is named after its original owner, Launcelet Dobson, who lived on nearby farm Grasswaite Howe. The lake later came under the ownership of Patterdale Hall. The new owners built a dam and dammed the lake so that it could be used as a fish pond. In winter, the lake was used to store ice in an ice cellar in the dam of the lake.
