Laos ( Greek  Λᾶος ) was an ancient Greek city located on the coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea at the mouth of the Lao , the border rivers of Lucania and Bruttium .

The place is located in the district of Stazione di Verbicaro of Santa Maria del Cedro in the province of Cosenza in the Italian region of Calabria .

Laos was a colony of Sybaris . The date of establishment is not known. According to Herodotus , the inhabitants of Sybaris found after its destruction in 510 BC. Refuge in Laos and Skidros , another sybaritic colony.

Laos was also the site of the battle in which the Greek cities took place in 390 BC. Suffered a devastating defeat against the Lucanians .

According to Strabo , there was a temple of heroes ( Heroon ) of Drakon , a companion of Odysseus, near the city .
