The (Dmitri) Laptev Strait ( Russian Пролив Дмитрия Лаптева ) is a waterway that separates the Lyakhov Islands from mainland North Siberia . Laptev Street is 155 km long, 50 to 61 km wide and 11 to 16 m deep. It connects the Laptev and the East Siberian Seas and is frozen over for most of the year. It is named after the Russian polar explorer Dmitri Jakowlewitsch Laptew . The areas on both sides of Laptev Street belong to the Russian Republic of Sakha (formerly Yakutia ).
