Lareine is a Japanese band founded in 1994, which can be assigned to visual kei . The name comes from French, la pure means "the queen".

On October 1, 2006, the separation of the band was announced on the official website.

history

The band, originally called La lie ne , was founded in 1994 by Kamijo, then called Shoki, and Mayu. It looks back on a very turbulent band history, as it is characterized by a constant change of line-up. The original line-up consisted of singer Kamijo, guitarists Mayu, Hirono and Kaito, bassist Sakureu and drummer Kyōka. Mayu left the band in 1995 due to musical differences of opinion with Kaito, who wanted to take a darker direction than was typical for the band. Sakureu was soon replaced by Emiru. In May 1995 Mayu returned at Kamijo's urging, especially since Kaito was thinking of leaving the band, which he did in October. He was accompanied by Kyōka, who founded the band Eliphas Levi . In July Lareine were their second demo tape Laliene publish the songs Dir en gray and Feerie contained. The first song was later often misunderstood by fans as the demo tape of La: Sadie's , which renamed itself Dir en gray , with the title Lareine . In November Machi joined as the new drummer and in 1996 the band changed their name to Lareine .

In the same year Akira was added as a new guitarist, but left after the release of the mini album Blue Romance and the Romancia tour. The first real album, which had the same name as the previous mini-album, followed. In 1998 the official Fleur fan club was founded and a Fleur single was released.

In 1999 the single Fiancailles was released by Sony Music Entertainment Japan . The success came. A year later they covered the Japanese opening title Bara wa utsukushiku chiru of the anime series Lady Oscar ( Versailles no bara ).

However, the band broke up when Mayu, Emiru and Machi left the band in August 2000. Kamijo, the only one left, now single-handedly released the album Scream under the name Lareine . However, he also gave up the band in 2001.

At the end of 2003, however, the band revived. After various solo projects by all members, songs were released again, with the old members gathered around Kamijo as guest musicians. Then the band got back together, but without drummer Machi, for whom Kazumi stood in. Lareine now consists of singer Kamijo, bassist Emiru, drummer Kazumi and guitarist Mayu. They are complemented by guitarist Motoki, who is not an official member.

style

music

The band's music is characterized by sometimes rockier, sometimes softer songs, which are performed by Kamijo's exotic-looking voice in a way that is reminiscent of French chansons . There are many ballads in her repertoire. A special feature is that Lareine want to tell a story with their music in which the members play different roles. The story evolves with each new song.

Occur

Like many visual kei bands, Lareine also cause a stir with an unusual outfit . Their costumes are often reminiscent of the nobility of Versailles and the fashion of the baroque , so that they are often compared to the Japanese band Malice Mizer . Elaborate hairstyles, for which wigs are sometimes used, as well as unusual and eye-catching make-up complete the external appearance. The exclusively male band members look correspondingly feminine. In addition, each member identifies with a flower, which is often implemented in the costumes.
