Versailles , also known as Versailles -Philharmonic Quintet- , is a Japanese symphonic metal and visual kei band founded in 2007 .

history

Versailles was founded in March 2007 by Kamijo (ex- Lareine ), Hizaki (ex-Sulfuric Acid) and Jasmine You (ex-Jyakura). Later on, Teru (ex-Aikaryu) and Yuki (ex-Sugar Trip), recommended by Rock May Kan , joined the group. Jasmine You and Teru already played together in Hizaki's solo project Hizaki Grace Project.

Kamijo

Kamijo and Hizaki came up with the concept of Versailles in the fall of 2006 and spent six months looking for members. You are looking for "the absolute Youshikibi  " ( beauty of the form of sounds and extreme aestheticism ). In March 2007 the formation of the band was announced. A promotional video was broadcast on the Internet, an English language page was created on Myspace and many interviews were given to the foreign press .

A first appearance immediately followed by their first appearance on June 24th. At the same time, they also released their very first single and DVD single, The Revenant Choir .

On October 31, the group signed a contract with the German independent label CLJ Records and released their first mini-album Lyrical Sympathy simultaneously in Japan and Europe . Her song The Love from a Dead Orchestra also appeared on a Tokyo Rock City scrapbook , released on November 9th by Sony BMG in Germany.

On May 3, 2008, the band played with other visual kei top bands such as X Japan , Luna Sea , Mucc and Marbell in front of 30,000 people at the Ajinomoto Stadium . The concert was a memorial concert for the X-Japan guitarist Hideto Matsumoto, who died in 1998 . In the same year Versailles debuted in the US with a concert on May 30 at Project A-Kon in Dallas ( Texas ), and on June 3 at the Knitting Factory in Los Angeles ( California ). On the personal blog of Jasmine You and Teru it was reported that the concert at Project A-Kon attracted more than 3,000 visitors and the concert in the Knitting Factory was completely sold out. The group first performed in France on April 6, 2008.

On July 9th, 2008 Versailles released their first real album Noble . It initially appeared exclusively in the iTunes store. In Japan and Europe the CD version was released a week later. An American publication followed on October 21, 2009.

A little later another (American) group, also called Versailles, registered the name, which forced the Japanese group to change its name. In the end they only changed their name to “Versailles -Philharmonic Quintet-” for their tour in the USA. The first release under the new name was the free download title PRINCE . On December 12th, 2008 the first single was released as Versailles -Philharmonic Quintet-: Prince & Princess , available in a regular edition and five limited editions, one for each member of the band.

At the end of 2008 the band was signed by the major label Warner Music . The band toured Japan again and stopped their live activities until the next album release. On June 24, 2009, Ascendead Master was their first major single.

On August 9, 2009, the group officially announced the death of bassist Jasmine You , he was only 30 years old. The cause of his untimely death has not yet been disclosed to the public. On January 20, 2010 the second album Jubilee , which was recorded with Jasmine You, was released. The missing bass parts were recorded by Hizaki.

Their new single DESTINY - The Lovers - was released on October 27, 2010 , for the first time with their new bassist Masashi, who had previously participated in several live shows. He was active in the live bands of Közi and Cosmo. On March 9, 2011, the single Philia was released with a new video and a series of episodes of a series called Onegaikanaete Versailles . Finally, on June 15, the third album, Holy Grail, was released, followed by a world tour.

On April 25, 2012 Versailles released a new download single entitled Rhapsody Of The Darkness with two tracks written by Kamijo and composed by Hizaki. On July 4, 2012, a second single called Rose follows on the occasion of the group's five-year anniversary.

After a final concert at the NHK Hall , Versailles officially announced that they would take a break on December 20, 2012. Her last album was released on September 26th under the band name Versailles . An anthology and a live DVD were also published.

Kamijo then started a solo career, while the remaining band members Hizaki, Teru, Yuki and Masashidie formed the band Jupiter . Zin joined the group as a singer.

In 2016 the members came together again and a European tour was announced. A new album was then released with the name "The greatest hits 2007-2016" in which the band re-recorded their best songs.
