Larkin (band)
Larkin is one of the longest-serving Irish folk bands in East Germany.
history
Larkin was co-founded in 1972 as a student band by the Scottish singer Jack Mitchell (1932-1997), who was a lecturer in the English / American Studies section of the Humboldt University in East Berlin .
Mitchell's interest in the political song made him and his band quite popular in the 1970s. The band influenced the development of the folk scene in the GDR. Sound carriers were not made during this time. The band owes its name to the Irish union leader James Larkin , known as Big Jim .
There is no longer any musician from the original line-up. Rock elements can always be found in their interpretations . Some texts translated into German have been changed to include humorous elements.
