Lars Gunnar Sønsteby

Lars Gunnar Sønsteby (born May 9,  1970 in Drammen ) is a former Norwegian basketball player .

career

Sønsteby, who measures 2.02 meters, began his career at the Drammen Basketball Club, and initially played in Kongsberg for adults . He left his home country in 1994 and moved to Northeastern State University (State of Oklahoma ) in the United States . There he stayed until 1996, then he played from 1996 to 1998 in the first division of Norway for Baerums Verk IF.

In the 1998/99 season he was initially in the squad of the Spanish first division club Recreativos Orenes Murcia, but was not used, first moved to BK Klosterneuburg in the Austrian Bundesliga and in the same season on to the German Bundesliga club Basket Bayreuth . In nine Bundesliga appearances for Upper Franconia, the Norwegian scored 5.3 points and 4.8 rebounds per encounter.

He returned to his home country in the run-up to the 1999/2000 season. He played another two years at Baerums Verk IF, with the Asker Aliens he took part in the 2002/03 European Cup competition FIBA Europe Regional Challenge Cup . In 2005 he played for the Kongsberg Penguins, then he went to the third division ATA Pitzemburg in Belgium . In autumn 2006 he moved to the Flénu-Quaregnon club in Belgium.

In the 2013/14 season he led the Ullern Elite women as a coach to win the Norwegian championship title. In 2014 he became the head coach of the men's team at Bærum Basket. Bærum became Norwegian runner-up as a trainer under Sønsteby in 2015, he then worked for the Asker Aliens, which he also led to silver in the Norwegian championship in 2018. For the 2018/19 season he switched to the coaching position of the Kongsberg Miners. He won the championship title with Kongsberg in spring 2019, after which he left the club.
