Lars Erik Hansen (born September 27, 1954 in Copenhagen ) is a former Canadian basketball player of Danish origin.

career

Hansen was born in the Danish capital Copenhagen, and in 1956 his family settled in Coquitlam in the Canadian province of British Columbia . He played basketball at Centennial Secondary School until 1972, with the school team he won the championship title in the province of British Columbia in 1972. The eight-foot-tall winger was a member of the University of Washington basketball team in the United States from 1972 to 1976 . He played 95 games for Washington and had averages of 9.9 points and 6.3 rebounds per encounter. Hansen achieved his best numerical values ​​in the 1975/76 season (14.2 points, 7.5 rebounds / game). In the 1976 NBA draft of the NBA in 1976, the Chicago Bulls secured  the rights to the Canadian in 37th place, but it was not used for the team from Illinois . Hansen played in the 1976/77 season for the Italian club Cinzano Milan, for which he scored 19.2 points per game. In 1977 he was selected again in the process, this time by the Los Angeles Lakers (151st position), but he played again for Cinzano Milan in the 1977/78 season. Hansen made his debut in the NBA in the 1978/79 season when he won the championship title with the Seattle SuperSonics . He played 15 games during the championship season and scored 5.1 points and 3.9 rebounds per encounter.

Hansen then moved back to Italy after a year in the NBA and strengthened the Eldorado Roma team in 1979/80. In the 1980/81 season he was under contract with the Spanish first division club OAR Ferrol and shone there with an average of 27.6 points per use. In 1981/82 he was part of the FC Barcelona team , with whom he also competed in the European Cup .

Following his playing career, he was temporarily assistant coach at the University of Washington. In 2001, Hansen was inducted into the Canadian Basketball Federation's Hall of Fame .

National team

With Canada's national team, Hansen took part in the 1974 World Cup and the 1976 Summer Olympics. During the Olympic tournament he was the third best scorer in his team with 13.7 points per match.
