Lars Skytøen
Lars Maurits Skytøen (born December 13, 1929 in Nøtterøy , † June 11, 2016 ) was a Norwegian trade union leader and politician.
Life
Lars Skytøen was the son of shipyard worker Lars Andersen Skytøen and his wife Emma Marie Andersen. Skytøen learned the profession of electric welder at the Kaldnes Mekaniske Verksted shipyard in Tønsberg . There he came into contact with the labor movement and quickly became a central figure in the local trade union movement. Politically he belonged first to the Communist Party of Norway , later to the Social Democratic Workers' Party . From 1965 he worked for the Norwegian Metalworkers Union (Norsk Jern- og Metallarbeiderforbund), of which he was chairman from 1976 to 1987. In this role he sat down together with the general trade union federation (Landsorganisasjonen i Norge ) for shorter working hours. The ensuing industrial action resulted in the lockout of more than 100,000 union members. Skytøen's relentless conduct of negotiations earned him respect from the employee representatives, so that the unions were able to enforce their demands and at the same time the employer leader Pål Kraby resigned from his position. He played a key role in the unification of his own and four other unions in the Fellesforbundet in 1988.
When Olav Haukvik resigned from the office of Minister of Industry as part of a government reshuffle in 1979 , Skytøen took over this office in the Nordli government until 1981.
Skytøen was the founder and member of the Norwegian Company Sports Federation and its chairman from 1966 to 1968.
He was married to Erna Marie Skytøen.
