Game of the Year : nominated 2012
German Games Prize 2012: 8th place

Las Vegas is a dice game by Rüdiger Dorn . The game was nominated by the Game of the Year jury in 2012 and came 8th in the 2012 German Games Prize . It was originally marketed under the title "Vegas". For legal reasons it has been on the market since November 2012 under the title "Las Vegas". The illustrations come from Mia Steingräber and Harald Lieske , and it is published in a trilingual edition (German, English, French) by alea .

Game flow

At the beginning of the game, each player receives eight dice of one color (or in a variant: two additional dice of a neutral color). There are also six casinos on the table. Each casino represents a number from one to six. At the beginning of the game, one or more banknotes are randomly distributed to each casino: At the end of a round, these are distributed as a prize to the players who have placed the most of their own dice in this casino.

The game mechanism is based on the fact that each player rolls all of his remaining dice and after each roll places all dice of any number on the casino with the same number (for example all three-point dice on the three-point casino). The player must place at least one die in a casino in each roll.

The aim of the game is to achieve a majority of the dice in casinos and thereby receive the banknotes with different values as a profit. Whoever has won the most money after four rounds wins.

If two different players have the same number of dice in a casino, they neutralize each other: neither of them receives the win. As a result, a third player with, for example, only a single dice in the casino in question may be the winner of the banknote. This mechanism offers room for many tactical considerations, especially towards the end of a game round, but also for surprising twists depending on the luck of the dice.

Characterization of the game

It is a quickly explained dice game with a relatively short duration. The luck of the dice can be optimized with tactical considerations, but the luck factor remains relatively high. Due to the intensification of the tension on the last throw (which can change everything again for everyone), it is also well suited as a family game.

Reviews

“With simple means, Vegas manages to transform the living room into a family-friendly gaming paradise: As in a real casino, the tension increases with every bet. With every roll of the dice, the players oscillate between the main prize and the rivet - that is captivating! Accordingly, the emotions fluctuate between exhilaration, anger and glee. And above all when the electrified gamblers force luck with a little tactics and risk. "

- Jury game of the year

"The rules are simple, but playful poker is of course what defines the game, although it is not a poker game, but actually a classic dice game with a very high incentive to play again."
