Laser Dance (originally Lazer Dance and later as Laserdance or Laserdance ) is from the Netherlands coming band that in 1981 by Erik van Vliet , the owner and founder of the label Hotsound Records was founded. With the addition of co-producer Michiel van der Kuy in January 1983 , the following years were the most successful times for Laserdance.

history

Since 1983, numerous singles and albums have been released under this group name that contain rhythmic, danceable electronic music. Since the music of Laserdance is mainly produced with synthesizers , their style of music is also known as synthdance or, due to the often spacey sound, also as spacesynth . Most of the music titles are predominantly instrumental, so that instrumental disco is also used here.

The first release and the first single by Laserdance were produced with the help of Fonny De Wulf (co-producer of Rofo ) and released under the group name Lazer Dance , the title of which was called Lazer Dance . The single is based on the eponymous song Laserdance (B-side of the single Crimebuster ) by Sponooch from 1979. The previous group name was changed to Laser Dance shortly afterwards . The first song appeared in further editions or remixes, also under the title Laser Dance or Laserdance. The success for Laserdance with its own single version was the foundation for further productions. Erik van Vliet recruited Michiel van der Kuy as co-producer for this, with van der Kuy recording the sounds and van Vliet specifying how it should sound and managing the project. The resulting second single, Goody's Return , was released in 1984 and, along with other productions such as Humanoid Invasion and Powerrun , was very successful in the 1980s. The first album Future Generation , which was released in 1987 in Germany under the sub-label Galaxis of the record label ZYX , was also a great success with almost 150,000 records sold. Other musicians participated in various titles by Laserdance, including a. Rob van Eijk and Ruud van Es . Between the laserdance productions, Michiel turned to his own and other music projects (including LA Style , Kozmoz, Rygar , Area 51 , Proxyon , Koto ), where the laserdance sound can usually be heard. Up until 1995, Laserdance released a new album every year, which was produced in the Netherlands by Dutch Rebel Music . The ZYX label continued to take over the German distribution. After they wanted to orientate themselves on the current techno and trance style with the 1995 produced album The Guardian Of Forever , but this was not accepted by the Laserdance fans, the producers took a break with Laserdance.

With the return of the music from the 1980s, Erik became active again with Laserdance without Michiel. At this point, Michiel was prevented from doing other projects (including Rygar, Alice Deejay ). In an interview on May 22, 1999, Michiel van der Kuy also stated differences with Erik van Vliet about the payment for the album production. For these reasons Erik van Vliet was looking for another co-producer, whom he found in Julius Wijnmaalen. With him, the tenth album Laserdance Strikes Back was brought onto the market via ZYX Music in 2000 . The genre should again be based on trance, but the album only contained synthdance music, which had been produced with more modern synthesizer sounds. The songs no longer sounded like the original Laserdance style and were only accepted to a limited extent by the fans, which is why the success of this album was not achieved.

After that it was quiet about laser dance for a long time. The ZYX label has now acquired the rights to the project. In 2004 a single was released under the name Laserdance Project under the name Laserdance Megamix under ZYX, which included music tracks by Laserdance, Koto and Hypnosis (or Hipnosis). In the same year, under Laserdances , an album with various synthdance artists was released in addition to Laserdance itself. In 2005 there was a Laserdance Megamix Vol.2 under the same project name.

In another interview from December 2010, Michiel van der Kuy made it clear that he was not interested in further laser dance productions in the future. ZYX asked other artists to produce for the label under the project name Laserdance . In 2014 Laserdance released the new single Moon Machine on the ZYX sampler ZYX Italo Disco Spacesynth Collection , which was again produced by Michiel van der Kuy, as well as the new single Cosmic Energy on the ZYX sampler ZYX Italo Disco New Generation Vol. 5 . With both titles you had found your way back to the former Laserdance sound roots. Cosmic Energy was composed and produced by Andreas Mohr, who with his own music project Cyber Space also settles in the synthdance and spacesynth area and has already remixed old laserdance titles - a. a. Shotgun (Cyber Space Remix) - released. According to Andreas Mohr, there shouldn't be any further laser dance productions himself for the time being. Erik van Vliet will once again be the executive producer behind the productions for Laserdance.

After 16 years of album break, the eleventh album Force of Order was released in September 2016 , which was produced in the tried and tested Spacesynth sound of the first Laserdance albums. Erik van Vliet and Michiel van der Kuy reorganized the old synthesizers of the older recordings especially for this album in order to produce laserdance tracks together again after 21 years. There was a pre-sale of a special edition CD of the album, which was equipped with various extras and autographed by Erik and Michiel and was limited to 140 pieces worldwide. In addition, the ten album titles were released as a double LP. There is also a signed limited edition limited to 50 pieces. The LP edition also contains an exclusive megamix of the album, with the single version (9 minutes long) on the limited edition and the long version (approx. 15 minutes) on the normal purchase version.
