Koto is an Italian synth dance - group , which mostly instrumental music produced. The group was founded in the early 1980s by producers Anfrando Maiola and Stefano Cundari.

history

The group name comes from the Asian instrument Koto , whereby the founders initially generally relied on Asian synthesizer sounds in the then modern dance garb. The duo therefore also belonged to the Italo Disco category . Her first record was released in 1982 in Italy on the label Cellophane Record with the title Chinese Revenge , which shortly afterwards was the first release and thus the birth of the Memory Records label. After some successes with titles like Japanese Wargame , Dragon's Legend , Jabdah and Visitors , the group became quieter again.

In 1989, the German record label ZYX Music bought the rights from Memory Records, including the naming and music rights of Koto. They commissioned the Dutch laser dance producer Michiel van der Kuy to re-record and mix some of the old Koto tracks. In 1990 Anfrando Maiola tried a comeback with Champion's Cue . The single did not bring the desired success as before. The co-founder Stefano Cundari died of cancer in 1990.

With a new single in 1990 and a new album in 1992, both produced by Michiel van der Kuy, the sound of the pieces became a lot more spacey. The released single Mind Machine contained vocal elements from the science fiction box office hit The Total Memory - Total Recall with Arnold Schwarzenegger . After the album could no longer gain great popularity, it was initially decided to withdraw with further new productions. During this time several older vinyl classics were re-released on CD under the ZYX Music sub-label Golden Dance Classics (GDC). Only in the new millennium did Koto, under founder Anfrando Maiola, come back with new pieces, true to the motto Koto Is Still Alive . Maiola had meanwhile regained the rights to the group name. The music style of Koto was adapted to the new trance and techno age . In 2003 the last album Electronic Hits was released , in 2009 the last single Strange Skies .
