Latin America Analyzes was a four-monthly scientific journal from 2002 to 2008 on political, economic and social topics in the Latin America region . It was replaced in 2009 by the Journal of Politics in Latin America (JPLA).

The GIGA Institute for Latin American Studies in Hamburg was the publisher of the Latin America Analyzes . The editorial team was headed by Wolfgang Hein. The journal was part of the GIGA Journal Family , which is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) as an open access pilot project. In the two-year project period, several established social science journals, including the Latin America Analyzes , are to be converted into open access journals and, in addition to the print version, offered online worldwide.

Latin America Analyzes emerged from the journal Latin America Analyzes - Data - Documentation , which was published from 1984 to 2000 by the then Institute for Ibero America Customer in Hamburg.
The scientific papers were before publication a double anonymous peer review process ( peer review subject) to ensure the quality of the contributions.
The magazine was aimed at professionals who deal with Latin America in science and politics, in business, administration and the media. The journal belongs to the holdings of many public and university libraries etc. in Germany and abroad and is classified, for example, at the University of Bonn as one of the most important German-language periodicals on current developments in Latin America.
